Mya Harrison родилась в Вашингтоне в 1980г. и выросла в Maryland. В детстве Mya занималась балетом и чечеткой, а также пела и училась игре на флейте. Она попала в труппу TWA (Tappers With Attitude) и отправилась в Нью-Йорк, чтобы почерпывать уроки танцев в Гарлемском танцевальном театре у знаменитого хореографа Savion Glover (известного своими Бродвейскими постановками Bring In 'Da Noise и Bring In 'Da Funk).
К середине 90х Mya сосредоточилась на другом своем пристрастии музыке. Отец Mya был профессиональным R&B музыкантом и помог сделать демо еженедельник для своей дочки. Одна из этих демо записей заинтересовала президента Univesity Music Haqq Islam. Haqq остался очень доволен прослушиванием и добился контракта с Interscope Records. Следующие сам-друг года Mya провела в студии Interscope, работая над своим дебютным альбомом. Darryl Pearson, Babyface, Diane Warren, Raphael Brown, Wyclef Jean, Missy Misdemeanor Elliott и Sisqo из Dru Hill постоянно приняли участие в записи альбома Mya. Релиз состоялся в апреле 1998г.
В восемнадцатилетнем возрасте Mya появилась на музыкальном Олимпе сразу с тремя синглами, попавшими в лучшую десятку: It's All About Me с Sisqo, Movin' On со звездой No Limit Records Silkk The Shocker и My First Night With You.
Но настоящая слава обрушилась на Mya после ежедневник совместной композиции с Pras feat. Ol Dirty Bastard Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are), попавшую в саундтрек к фильму Bulworth. Также Mya поучаствовала в журнал композиции группы Blackstreet Take Me There из саундтрека Rugrats.
Два года спустя Mya выпустила другой альбом под названием Fear Of Flying. В работе над альбомом приняли участие Lisa Left Eye Lopez, Jadakiss, Wyclef Jean и Swizz Beatz. Особенно хотелось бы отметить синглы Case of the Ex, The Best of Me, Free и совместную композицию с королем dancehall Beenie Man Lie Detector. Сингл Best Of Me сначала был записан с рэппером Jadakiss, а потом на него был сделан ремикс с реппером Jay-Z.
В июне 2001 Missy Elliott спродюсировала римейк Lady Marmalade собрав с Mya, Lil' Kim, Pink и Christina Aguilera. Сингл добился огромной популярности и принес девушкам Grammy в 2002 и награду вслед за лучшее видео MTV Awards.
В перерывах между записями альбомов Mya успела сняться в мюзикле Chicago. Cъемки стали необыкновенным опытом чтобы Mya: Мне приходилось играть, петь и танцевать, в общем выкладываться по полной и это было потрясающе.
Mya также снялась в фильме Havana Nights (a.k.a Dirty Dancing II), в роли вокалистки латиноамериканской группы 50х годов.
В 2003 г. Mya создала свой третий увраж Moodring не без помощи Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Damon Elliott, Knobody, Rockwilder, Omen, Tricky, Jam & Lewis, Ron Fair. Самый запоминающийся хит сингл My Love Is LikeWo, был спродюсирован Missy Elliott. Концепцию к видео Mya придумала сама. Альбом стал отражением мистической стороны Mya.
