How could I begin an amazing story without including the culprit to its beginning? I like to call this endeavor, “The Gift of Kayla” my beloved German Shepherd who ruled my life for almost 11 years. Kayla was one month shy of 12 years when she passed away on August 17, 2007. Kayla was my life. She was attached, extremely protective and that was exactly what I needed – a needing soul to give me responsibility. I loved Kayla, aka: Kayler, Sweetheart, Special, Precious, Pretty Face, Kayla Dog, Kayla Anne, Pookie Bear, “K” and whatever sweet nothings I or a friend might conjure up to the happiest lethal tail that once occupied the planet. I mean that, Kayla’s tail WAS a weapon! It was not a normal day unless THAT tail knocked either my beer or glass of iced tea over. Oh and I must note, that if it was a beer, believe me, it was almost always the last one after it was too late to buy another. Whacking the beer off of the table was HER way of saying, “Okay friend, you had enough.”
Oh my gosh, AND painting the Julie Street house was another great opportunity for the largest paint brush known to man to brighten both my clothes, arms, legs, face, and you name it, with swirling designs of white, white paint! Kayla’s tail was beautiful. I loved her tail. There is another tail of another that I will tell later in this story. Tails are amazing parts to our beloved children. It is all in the tail, when it is wagging, it’s good. God forbid we mention the word, dog. Dogs are not dogs today. They are one of us. To refer to our babies as a dog might hurt their feelings or possibly insult them. Nevertheless, it is okay to refer to the word dog when speaking about dog food, doggy
